There is only a few days to go until the GemLife Gold Coast Beach Parade takes over Burleigh Heads.

This Sunday, Gold Coasters are being encouraged to come together to set a world record for the greatest number of people wearing koala ear visors involved in a beach parade, all while raising much needed funds to save our local koalas.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun, quirky fun, but that’s the Gold Coast!” Event Director Leanne St George told myGC.

“At 11 o’clock, we will leave Burleigh Heads, and we go all the way down to North Burleigh. Then we’ll come back along the beach, and come up across a big stage.

“Everyone will have their two seconds of fame – they will walk across a 12 metre catwalk with a very big counter hanging across the stage.”

A number of iconic Gold Coasters, influencers, organisations and sporting teams have signed on to take part, including the Gold Coast Stingrays.

“Our club saw it and we thought that is great idea to help out our koalas on the Gold Coast. We thought we would jump on in and give it a go,” Stingrays team member Natasha Jacobs told myGC.

GemLife General Manager Ben Livingston said he was thrilled to be involved in the event.

“We need your support, but more importantly, the koalas need your support,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a boatload of Gold Coasters rallying together, supporting our iconic Australian, and setting a record hopefully on the day.”

The GemLife Gold Coast Beach Parade will be held on May 16 at Burleigh Heads, with on-the-day registration open from 8a

Entry fees are $25 per person, $80 for a family (up to 4) and $200 for a company/sporting club/school (up to 10), which will go directly to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation to support the Gold Coast’s koala population.
